Well, I did it. I made my first Overstock purchase. While achieving this milestone I simultaneously fulfilled a somewhat lifelong desire of buying a hope chest. You see, my mother has a hope chest, and, for as long as I can remember, she kept it at the end of my parents bed. It was the place where the special holiday linens were held among other things. I spent a lot of morning hours watching Good Morning America while sitting on that hope chest growing up while waiting for my mom to iron my school clothes (thanks mom!).
My little purchase wasn’t as much as to fulfill the desire for a hope chest. Rather, my bedroom’s white walls and vacant floor space had began to bother me a couple of months ago. With the living room coming together in February upon the completion of the cover-the-mirror-initiative, I had been asked what project I was going to be tackling next. I was stumped. And then I noticed how plain jane my bedroom had become. You see, in the past, all of my “office” furniture was also strategically placed in my bedroom. With a separate room for that now, I realized how stark my room was. I also noticed that nearly all of the furniture that I was using had followed me from childhood. So I decided to do something about it.
I knew that the place to start was to find something to go at the end of the bed. I knew this because my tailbone was becoming bruised from delicately balancing on my footboard as I put on my shoes in the morning. I started searching for “benches” and didn’t have much luck. Finally, an Overstock ad caught my attention. There were lots of options but something in my gut told me to wait… that the “perfect” bench (one that was long enough, didn’t look cheap and had storage capabilities) would surface.
Well, thanks to cookies, Overstock advertising popped up everywhere. I did a really good ignoring them until last Thursday when I saw this:
Not only is it made out of one of my favorite fabrics (linen!) but it’s long enough to nearly span my queen-sized bed.
I was amazed at how fast it came (< 1 week!) and the FedEx delivery man and/or woman did a superb job placing the mammoth-sized package on my back porch.
I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to do with the ample storage space…
… but I’m sure I’ll think of something!
One thing is for sure and that is is that I enjoy having a little place to sit during the morning routine.
I just need to make sure that I don’t bury it in clothes.
Why do I have such a problem with this?
Have you made any fun furniture acquisitions recently? Any furniture do-overs?

We MUST be related! I have the same issue of clothes stacking up on the bench…or the chair…or the bathroom floor! Cute hope chest! Love the linen…
I am so bummed — Jessica would have been the perfect person to have my vintage White Oak hope chest that I am clearing out of our Olylmpia home. It was a graduation present in 1958 and is in pristine condition. Jessica if you will take it,it’s yours — I’ve always loved it and it’s an authentic cedar chest.
I’m sure I’d love it! We can talk details this weekend when you’re not too busy!
: )
YEAA! I’d love for you to have it! I’m pretty sure your dad could handle it in a pick up. I received it for graduation in 1958.
Oh, I already said that — I’m tired — we worked 8 hours again today clearing that big house.
